Opening Day for the NMABL!

With the 2023 season underway, the NMABL will be highlighting one game each week for the first month of the season.  This past Sunday, the 18+ Dodgers and 18+ Duke City Angels faced off at El Dorado High School for Opening Day.  The game did not disappoint as veteran manager, Bryan Deshayes and his Angels faced a tough Dodgers team run by Sergio Molinar. Sergio returns from a four year hiatus after battling Stage 4 cancer and brings a strong passion and eagerness to his team.
The matchup started off as an amazing pitcher’s duel between Angel’s Ace Dillon Mulholland and Dodger starter Josiah Armijo. Angel’s center fielder, Logan Augustine, drove the first run in with a single into the outfield. With no other runs until the 7th, Eddie Gonzalez stepped up with a 2 RBI single to give the Dodgers the lead. The Angel’s bats couldn’t get hot and their chances were dwindling until Nate Ross blasted a 2-run homer on top of the apartments behind left field. Leading 3-2 in the top of the ninth, Mulholland dug deep to deliver the win with the final two strikeouts of the day.
Angel’s Performances of the Day:
Dillon Mulholland – 9 IP, 16 Ks, 1 W, 1 ER and going 2-3 at the plate with a double and a single
Nate Ross – 1/3 with a 2-run HR and a walk
Dodger’s Performances of the Day:
Josiah Armijo – 7 IPs, 9 Ks, 1 W, 1 HBP, 1 ER
Eddie Gonzales – 2/3, 2 singles with 2 RBIs
Stay tuned with the NMABL as we highlight another game from our upcoming Sunday schedule!
